Black Heritage Artisan Collar

Bold, timeless and unmistakably Staffy, this limited-edition collar is handcrafted by professional artisans with many years of experience in traditional leatherwork.

The rich black leather creates a dramatic background for the Stafford knot and two-tone gold and silver detailing. Its wide, substantial shape gives it a powerful heritage appearance designed to complement the distinctive build of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

The outer is made from carefully selected full-grain buffalo leather. Inside, premium full-grain NDM soft cow leather provides comfortable black padding against the dog’s neck. Rounded, smoothly worked edges help reduce rough contact and complete the collar’s refined finish.

A quality solid-brass roller buckle and heavy solid brass D-ring provide substantial finishing details. The D-ring is solid and not joined, creating a strong attachment point for the dog’s lead.

What Makes Full-Grain Leather the Best Grade?

Full-grain leather is considered the finest grade because the natural surface of the hide remains intact. It has not been heavily sanded or corrected to conceal its original grain, allowing it to retain the strongest and most durable fibres.

This premium leather is frequently chosen for quality saddlery, footwear, belts and luxury accessories intended for long-term use. Every hide carries subtle natural markings and variations, giving each finished collar its own individual character.

With use and proper care, full-grain leather gradually becomes more supple and develops a natural patina. Unlike imitation leather, it does not rely on a thin artificial surface layer to create its appearance.

The Difference with Vegetable-Tanned Leather

Vegetable tanning is a time-honoured method that uses tannins obtained from plant materials to preserve and strengthen the hide. It is a slower process that demands patience, specialist knowledge and considerable tanning experience.

Because it requires more time and skilled handling, vegetable-tanned leather is less commonly used for cheap, mass-produced collars. It is prized by leather artisans for its strength, natural appearance and ability to mature beautifully rather than simply wearing out.

As the collar is used, the leather will gradually soften and gain a richer, more individual character.

Why Use Buffalo Leather?

Buffalo leather is naturally dense, strong and hard-wearing, making it particularly well suited to substantial collars for powerful, broad-necked dogs.

Its pronounced natural grain gives the leather depth and character. Small variations in grain or tone are normal features of an authentic hide and help make every handcrafted collar unique.

Buffalo leather can feel firm when new. With regular wear, it gradually softens and moulds while retaining the strength and substance for which it is valued.

Cleaning and Caring for the Collar

For everyday cleaning, gently wipe the collar with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Leave it to dry naturally at room temperature before putting it back on the dog.

Never soak the collar or dry it on a radiator, beside a fire or with direct heat. Rapid drying can remove natural moisture from the leather and may cause it to become stiff or cracked.

When deeper cleaning is required, use a small amount of a product specifically designed for full-grain leather. Test it first on a discreet area. Once the collar is clean and completely dry, apply a light coating of suitable leather conditioner when needed.

Avoid harsh detergents, household cleaning products, bleach, alcohol and excessive oil. The brass fittings may be polished carefully with a soft cloth, but metal polish should not be allowed to touch the leather.

If the collar becomes soaked, remove it from the dog, wipe away excess water and allow it to air-dry slowly and naturally.

How to Measure for the Correct Fit

Fasten your dog’s current collar using the hole normally worn. Measure around the inside circumference of the closed collar—do not measure its complete end-to-end length.

If the inside measurement is between approximately 16 and 19 inches, this collar should provide a suitable fit.
