Premium vegetable-tanned buffalo leather can feel firm when new because of its dense natural fibres and traditional tanning process. With regular handling and use, the oils and waxes within the leather redistribute, allowing the collar and lead to soften beautifully while maintaining their strength, structure and shape.
FULL-GRAIN LEATHER
Full-grain leather retains the hide’s complete natural surface, giving it exceptional strength, texture and individuality. Instead of quickly wearing out, it develops a distinctive patina and even more character with age.
VEGETABLE-TANNED LEATHER
Traditional vegetable tanning uses plant-based tanning agents rather than the harsh chromium-tanning process. It produces strong, naturally beautiful leather that is well suited to premium dog collars and leads.
DRUM-DYED COLOUR
Drum dyeing allows the rich black colour to penetrate deeply into the leather instead of sitting only on the surface. This creates a more even, lasting finish while preserving the hide’s natural grain.
BUFFALO LEATHER
Buffalo leather is renowned for its durability, strength and distinctive natural texture. Every hide has its own markings, making each handcrafted Blackthorn set subtly unique.

LEATHER CARE
- Do not soak or heavily oil the leather when new.
- Allow it to soften naturally through regular use.
- Wipe away dirt with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
- Use saddle soap sparingly and only when a deeper clean is required.
- When the leather begins to feel dry, apply a very small amount of neutral leather balm suitable for vegetable-tanned leather.
- Always test cleaning or conditioning products on a hidden area first, as they may darken the leather.
- If wet, wipe dry and allow it to air-dry naturally—never place it near direct heat.
- Store somewhere cool and dry, away from strong sunlight and damp conditions.
- Wipe the fittings clean with a soft, dry cloth.
