Why we use buffalo leather
- Buffalo leather is strong and durable, making it well suited to quality collars and leads.
- Its distinctive natural grain gives each handcrafted set individual character.
- It gradually becomes more supple with use while retaining its substantial feel.
Why we use vegetable-tanned leather
- Tanned using plant-derived tannins, traditionally sourced from bark and other plant materials.
- Chosen for its rich character, firm structure and ability to develop a beautiful patina.
- Initially firm, it gradually moulds to your dog’s neck with normal wear.
Why full-grain leather matters
- Full grain: retains the natural outer grain rather than having it sanded away, preserving the leather’s strong surface and individual markings.
- Top grain: usually has its surface sanded or corrected for a more uniform appearance. It can still be good quality, but loses some natural character.
- “Genuine leather”: means real leather, but does not identify its grade or guarantee quality.
- We choose full-grain buffalo leather for its durability, natural texture and ability to age beautifully.
Cleaning and caring for your collar
- Wipe gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then allow to dry naturally.
- Avoid soaking, radiators, hairdryers and prolonged direct sunlight.
- Do not saddle-soap, oil or deliberately soften the collar when new. It should settle gradually through normal wear.
- The oils and waxes introduced during leather finishing help keep it supple; adding products immediately can darken or over-soften it.
- Once well worn, use a suitable leather conditioner sparingly only if needed, testing a hidden area first.
