- SWELLING AND INFLAMMATIONAnother common side effect of arthritis is joint swelling. Many but not all types of arthritis are a result of inflammation from the immune system. A healthy body will produce white blood cells along with compounds to protect from infection (16). With arthritis the immune system will trigger a response that can damage the body's own tissue. CBD has been seen to suppress these inflammatory responses, which can then reduce arthritis symptoms. Researchers believe CBD can be both a beneficial and preventative treatment for disease that involve chronic inflammation in the bodyPain and inflammation levels have a close relationship and often go hand in hand in many diseases. Arthritis patients have chronic inflammation due to prolonged inflammatory response, which can increase oxidative stress, which can directly affect health organs and tissue. (18)REDUCED APPETITEPain of arthritis can affect appetite and weight management. Some medications can also directly affect appetite resulting in unintentional weight loss. This can directly affect mood, metabolism and affinity for eating,A 2016 study found that certain types of medication for rheumatoid arthritis was associated with weight loss and weight management, nausea, diarrhoea and changes to bowel habits (19)

- CBD oil is rapidly becoming recognised as an excellent supplement as well as an aid to help with various ailments, it has grown massively more popular in recent years, there is evidence that it has been used for 2,900 years as a painkiller and medicinal aid. CBD is extracted from the stalk, leaf and flowers of hemp plant and ours is third party tested and non toxic.CBD ( Cannabidiol ) offers relief from depression, anxiety, seizures, joint pain, muscle pain, sleep issues and so much more. Institutions worldwide such as Harvard University, are constantly carrying out studies on CBD and to date all studies have been favourable. If you ever saw a western movie with a medicine man in it, what the medicine man was selling was CBD oil. CBD is now legal in the UK as long as it contains no more than 0.2% THC, Tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive ingredient derived from the cannabis plant which is also a member of the hemp family of plants which can contain up to around 30% THC, so there is no chance of getting high on CBD which contains a ‘Maximum’ 0.2% THC.
Cancer treatment pain
One of the most challenging stages for individuals with cancer is dealing with the numerous side effects of the disease treatments. Cancer treatment options vary, but common ones include hormone therapy, immunotherapy and chemotherapy. These treatments can result in a range of side effects, including pain, vomiting, nausea and lack of appetite (14).
The cancer patient often experiences chronic and persistent pain. The research on CBD oil and oral sprays and their effects on cancer pain management has been promising. Researchers have investigated CBD oil and its role in reducing inflammation and overall discomfort due to health conditions like cancer.
A 2013 study involving advanced cancer patients with cancer-related pain looked at how THC-CBD extract, in conjunction with opioids, produced more effective pain relief than opioids alone (15). Another 2018 review, which looked at studies conducted from 1975 to 2018, assessed the effects of CBD in relieving chronic pain. A range of pain conditions was examined, including cancer and neuropathic pain. Researchers concluded that CBD was effective in overall pain management across different pain types with minimal side effects experienced (16).
The side effects of pain
Pain is complex and caused by different factors that often compound to transmit information to the brain. In many cases, pain is caused by a specific injury or health condition, but in others, the underlying reasons can be less obvious or entirely unknown, requiring numerous tests (20). Whatever the cause, pain can be highly debilitating and create additional ailments or side effects that are often overlooked.
Common side effects associated with pain include:
- Decreased mood.
- Changes in appetite.
- Depression and anxiety.
- Decreased sleep quality.
Our physical and mental health is intrinsically linked. Individuals with high levels of pain are more likely to develop depression and anxiety. Chronic pain can also result in reduced sleep quality or even insomnia as the intensity of the pain prevents the patient from having a restful sleep (21). All of these side effects can spiral and create a feedback loop that worsens the level of pain.
