Quality Starts With the Leather

A beautiful show set should offer more than an attractive colour. The leather, tanning, finishing and fittings all contribute to its character.

Full-grain leather — our premium choice

Full-grain leather retains the natural outer grain rather than having it sanded away. This preserves its strong surface, distinctive texture and individual markings. With proper care, it develops a patina that adds character over time.

Top-grain leather usually has its surface sanded or corrected for a more uniform appearance. It can still be good quality, while the term “genuine leather” simply confirms real leather without identifying its grade. We choose full grain for its durability and natural finish.

Buffalo leather — strength and substance

Carefully selected buffalo leather offers a substantial feel and distinctive grain. It is well suited to handcrafted collars and leads, gradually becoming more supple through normal wear while retaining its natural character.

Vegetable tanning — a traditional process

Vegetable tanning uses plant-derived tannins, traditionally obtained from materials such as tree bark. The process generally takes longer than chrome tanning and often involves higher production costs and skilled craftsmanship.

We choose vegetable-tanned leather for its firm structure, rich character and ability to age beautifully. It may feel firm at first, then gradually settle with use.

Hand-dyed, individually finished

The black colour is carefully created by hand rather than using factory-bought coloured leather. Together with the natural grain, this gives each set subtle individuality.

Solid brass Stafford knots, Celtic buttons and bars complete the design, bringing substance and traditional detail to the black-and-gold finish.

Check the Fit Before Ordering

  • Fasten an existing collar at your dog’s comfortable wearing size.

  • Use a flexible tape to measure its inner circumference — the surface that touches the neck.

  • Compare that measurement with the approximate 14–16-inch fitting range.

  • Remember that the 19.5-inch full collar length is different from its neck fitting size.

Simple Care, Beautiful Leather

  • Wipe away everyday dirt with a soft, slightly damp cloth.

  • Keep cleaning gentle; avoid excessive soap, repeated scrubbing and household detergents.

  • Do not soak the leather.

  • Allow it to dry naturally, away from radiators, hairdryers and prolonged direct sunlight.

  • Do not saddle-soap, oil or deliberately soften the collar when new. Allow it to settle through normal wear.

  • Oils and waxes introduced during finishing help maintain suppleness. Adding products immediately can alter the finish or over-soften the leather.

  • Once well worn, use a suitable leather conditioner sparingly only if needed, testing a hidden area first.

  • Hand-dyed leather may transfer colour when damp.

  • Check the leather, stitching and fittings regularly for wear.

For that special Staffy — craftsmanship worth looking closely at.
